Ocean Wonders Aquarium Review

Ocean Wonders AquariumIt's always touch and go with baby products. Which is why I wasn't sure the Ocean Wonders Aquarium would be one that my son would like. How wrong I was. My son *loves* it. We didn't get it until he was about 9 or 10 months old so I don't know if it would have helped when he was younger (he's 1 now). But now after he's placed into his crib, he immediately turns it on and falls asleep to it. He's also figured out how to change the different settings to music, lights, etc. It's quite obvious when he's up from his nap/bedtime because you suddenly hear the music from the aquarium playing in the background.

I had read reviews at Amazon that the previous Aquarium model (the Peaceful Planet Aquarium) was better because of different features such as lights on the ceiling which the current model does not have. However, because that model was discontinued by Fisher-Price, I had to order it from ebay. Unfortunately once I got it, it didn't work.

I debated on whether to risk purchasing another *slightly used* model, or just get a new one.I decided to bite the bullet and get the newer model at the store. I haven't regretted my decision. I just wish I would have done it sooner.I am completely and totally happy with this product, as is my son.

Another plus - it doesn't seem to eat batteries as much as other toys do.Definitely worth 5 stars.

UPDATE 1/26/05:It's been over a year since my review and I still highly recommend this acquarium. My son (2) still uses this in his crib. Not sure what's going to happen once he moves to a bed, but until then, this will be put to good use.Definitely worth the $$$.

UPDATED 12/3/07:It's been four years since I originally wrote the review. My son's old acquarium is currently attached to my one year old's crib, and she loves it as well.In fact, she actually prefers it to one of the newer acquariums that displays lights on the ceiling which really surprised me.It still works as great as the day we got it!

Ocean Wonders Musical Aquarium Crib Attachment Review

Ocean Wonders Musical Aquarium Crib AttachmentWe bought the previous version of the Ocean Wonders aquarium in 2002 for our first child. It served a lot of functions: soothing white noise to fall asleep by, a day-or-night toy by the crib. Our firstborn loved it.Nicest of all, it made the transition to his toddler bed much easier. We wanted our second son (born last september) to have his own, and we were glad to see that a new version was coming out because we assumed the new model would be an improvement. This is not the case.

For starters, the new version is a MAJOR hassle to put together. The old model was one unit with a panel in the back for putting in batteries. Its one thing for battery replacement to require a screwdriver, but this contraption has a seperate battery case that attaches to the rest of it by an OUT OF SIGHT screw that you have to line up PERFECTLY to get the device to work.It took me two hours to find this screw. If that wasn't enough, you have to do this while the batteries are out and while the thing is attached to the crib or you won't be able to get it to stay in place! It is as if the designers were trying to find the clunkiest way possible to set this up.

Secondly, the new model is much bigger and much brighter than the old one. While this makes it more of something to play with, it also makes it useless for soothing nighttime use.The size makes it more than a little intimidating for a newborn, but the brightness makes it useless for nighttime.

To be fair, there have been some improvements over the older model. The sound quality of the songs is much better both in fidelity and tambre (it doesn't sound like a cheezy synthisizer). The ocean sounds (which are the best sounds) are still there and sound good.

Overall, I would not recommend this product.See if you can find one of the earlier model floating around.

Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium Review

Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders AquariumThis is a goregous item!I was hesitant to buy it online, so went to Target to see it for myself. You HAVE to push the button to try it before you can really appreciate it. The pictures on the website just don't do it justice.

The lights and motions and sounds that you can't see in pictures are what makes this so special. The lights are bright enough to be really sparkly, but soft, not harsh, amber colored. The movements of the fish and plants are subtle and realistic. The songs and sound effects, several lullabies, bubbles, oceantides and running river are high quality, not high-pitched or tinny. This is soothing, my almost 3 month old likes it and it almost made me fall asleep too.

The remote works well too, which is usually a problem with these types of items. It is super high quality, heavy weight materials.Make sure you don't cut the straps that are to hold it in the crib, as they attach it in the box, and even though there's a big red crossed circle sign telling you not to cut them, it took me a minute to process what it meant, and I was in such a hurry to get this out and working and show the baby that I almost cut them anyway (we parents are programmed to break out the chainsaw to get toys out of their packages these days!)

Really a good value for the money, I am so glad I went to see this and didn't pass it up!You will NOT be disappointed, go ahead and buy it on line if you like the idea and photos, you will LOVE the actual item!

Baby Einstein Baby Neptune Soother Review

Baby Einstein Baby Neptune SootherI purchased this after reading all of the reviews on here, mainly due to the long play time, and the gradual shutting down of the crib soother. Apon reciept, the picture here does look much different than the item does in person, as far as the screen - but it doesn't make me any less happy with the product.
One review complained about the volume, buy my soother does have 2 volume levels, and I think even the loud one, isn't very loud. The quiet is perfect.
One review also complained about 2 units that stopped working. I have discovered why! When the batteries begin to fail, the until stops working in phases. All of a sudden the motion wouldn't work on our unit. Because I had read the previous reviews, I initially thought my players was broken too because we still had light and music.
Then a few days later, the light would only work for about 5 minutes at a time, but we still had long periods of music. So I thought yep, its garbage. But then my husband said, well, lets just change the batteries.
And like new - the whole thing works again!!
So I'm guessing that the gradual systems stopping is meant to be an indicator that the batteries are wearing down.It doesn't mean the unit is defective.I didn't check it at first, because I thought they were new batteries - but it turns out my husband and just put in the ones from our old crib player.
So with this revelation, I can say I am perfectly happy with this player. I love the length of play, the gradual shut down and I really LOVE the remote function. I'm happy!
